FLO-TruBalance Hearing Accessibility Project
Project Details:
The FLO-TruBalance Hearing Accessibility Project is a collaborative initiative with ICCER, Bethany Care Society, and Silvera for Seniors, aimed at improving the quality of life for seniors, individuals with dementia, and those with hearing or sight challenges through innovative assistive hearing technology. This project focuses on accessibility, confidence, and inclusion — offering a healthier, more affordable alternative to traditional hearing aids.

FLO-TruBalance products use open-ear bone-conduction amplification, transmitting sound vibrations directly to the cochlea, allowing users to hear clearly while remaining aware of their surroundings. This innovative approach reduces ear irritation, wax buildup, and discomfort common with in-ear devices, making it ideal for seniors and dementia patients who experience sensitivity, confusion, or discomfort with traditional hearing aids.

How It Helps:
-
Mild to Moderate Hearing Loss: Enhances hearing clarity and speech understanding in daily conversations and group activities, making it perfect for those beginning to experience hearing changes.
-
Moderate to Severe Cases: Many users report improved results by combining FLO-TruBalance with traditional hearing aids — achieving greater clarity and depth of sound.
-
Dementia Support: Improved sound clarity helps individuals with dementia stay connected and engaged, reducing agitation and isolation by enhancing their ability to recognize voices and participate in conversation.
-
Tinnitus Relief: Amplified sound vibrations help reduce ringing and background noise, promoting relaxation and better focus.
-
Confidence and Social Connection: Its modern, headphone-style design removes stigma, encouraging users to feel proud and confident in public.
-
Improved Morale and Engagement: Residents who use FLO products show increased social participation, interaction, and enjoyment in everyday activities.
-
Health and Safety: The open-ear design helps users remain aware of environmental sounds, promoting safer navigation — especially for those with both hearing and vision impairments.
Accessibility and Affordability:
FLO-TruBalance products are non-medical assistive hearing technologies, recognized for promoting wellness, communication, and social inclusion. This makes them eligible for programs like NDIS and senior-care funding, offering a cost-effective alternative to $8,000 hearing aids — ensuring that low-income seniors, dementia patients, and families have access to healthy, effective hearing support.
Shared Vision and Impact:
Through this project with ICCER, Bethany, and Silvera, FLO aims to empower seniors and individuals with dementia across Canada by making advanced hearing technology accessible, affordable, and inclusive. Together, these organizations are leading the way in creating a future where individuals feel included, supported, and valued — not isolated by hearing loss or cognitive decline.
